PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
